Craptcha

This is a public service announcement for those of you with Blogger (blogspot) blogs that have "word verification" turned on for your comments. You may not even know you HAVE "word verification" turned on if you're on the new interface! As it stands now, I can barely prove I'm not a robot when I try to comment at a lot of blogs! I've seen a lot of complaints out there, so here's how to turn off those wretched Captcha codes if you'd like.

The trick is...if you're using the "new" Blogger interface, you'll need to switch back to using the old interface to change this option. To do this:
  • From your blog's main administrator page (where you start a new post, or check on your stats, or edit your pages), look in the upper right-hand corner, and you should see a button with a gear on it.
  • Click that and it will drop down a menu.
  • Select "Old Blogger interface" (don't worry; you can switch back).
From the old Blogger interface...
  • Find the "Settings" link (or tab) and click it.
  • Look for "Comments"...now don't click the "Comments" tab that sits between "Posting" and "Settings" at the top. Look for the one underneath "Settings" and click that.
  • Scrolllll down and look for "Show word verification for comments?".
  • Click NO!
  • Now click the "Save Settings" button at the bottom of the page.
Finally, to switch back to Blogger's new interface by going back to the top of the page and looking for the "Try the updated Blogger interface" link.

(Hint: for most of these, you can "search" for the text to find where to go...Ctrl-F in most browsers.)

Hope this helps someone...if you need pictures, I can try and put them up later!

You may get a bit more spam in your spam folder this way, but hopefully not visible to everyone. And you might want to enable the box that says comment moderation is in effect for posts older than ... days (you fill in the number of days). A lot of weird comments come in on the old ones.

I recently changed mine seeing how awful this 2 word thing is. I figured I'd give it a try in hopes that I'm not inundated with strange spam.

Well I am not very computer savy since I didn't even know you could take word verification off. :P Thanks for the instructions! I took it off as-soon-as I saw your post. :)

Thanks for giving instructions about this. I really thought I'd turned off word verification months ago, but when I went to check, there it was, enabled. Hopefully its turned off for good now. Very annoying.

Hi, I think I'm missing something. I don't have the 'old blogger interface' option when I click the cog. All I have is blogger help, send feedback, edit notifications, connect to google + and about our new look. Am I looking in the wrong place?
I thought I was pretty computer savvy, but everyone keeps saying how easy it is to do, and I just don't seem to be able to do it.
