WIPocalypse...but We're Still Here

Click now for JiffNotes

WIPocalypse

So this is the very last WIPocalypse post of 2012!

Since I posted so late last month, I don't have much to report here. I did make some progress on my Lapland Santa:
I thought I might get him done before Christmas (but then reality set in!!)

It's been a lot of fun doing WIPocalypse, but I don't think I'm going to continue next year. Since the posting times were usually so close to Theme-a-licious, I ended up rehashing a lot of stuff. If I weren't actually running Theme-a-licious, I could do combined posts, no problem! But I think this year I will just happily lurk and enjoy all your posts.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Thankful There was no Apocalypse...Just WIPocalypse

WIPocalypse

So, I am ridiculously, crazily late with this update. Maybe I was just so relived the world didn't end I was rendered immobile for a while. =)

I feel like I haven't done much work on "official" WIPocalypse projects, but I did do a little on my Santa:

Of course, the BIG news is that I FINISHED RANDOM THOUGHTS!!
WIPocalypse victory!! More pictures are here.

BUT WAIT! Now the world's supposed to end on December 21?? Well, at least I finished something!

Spooky WIPocalypse of Spookiness

Click now for JiffNotes
WIPocalypse

oooOOOOoooo!! It's a spooky WIPocalypse update just in time for Hallowe'en! Just look at the ghostly progress I've made since the last WIPocalypse report:

Wait. What? You can't see it? Well, it IS ghostly, after all... Perhaps you need to be looking at it from a Doom Buggy?

Oh, OK!!! I confess!! I have made very little progress since the last WIPocalypse udpate!! Most of my stitching time has been spent on the stumpwork class I signed up for. The only other thing I worked on was Ye Shall Prosper, and I did finish the other side of the pincushion I was working on:

I did update my WIPocalypse page with all the latest shots, so...that's...something, right??

Fall Fun WIPocalypse

Click now for JiffNotes
WIPocalypse

I should have been posting this just as I disembarked (what a crazy word, eh?) from the Disney Fantasy after a week of sun, fun and food. But mostly food. In fact, I probably rolled off the ship.

Anyway! Here's all the progress I made on my WIPocalypse projects before I boarded!

Yep, that's right. Notadarnthing. Instead I was packing and trying to find small, cool presents for Michael that he could play with on board the ship (I mostly succeeded). And trying to make door magnets for us:

I kept adding new ones every day. And since I am a princess ninja (according to my hubby), I was able to do it without him seeing me do it, even though he was standing right next to me (like, inches away).

But you're here for stitching!! Well, have I got something for you!

It's a little something, but it's something nonetheless. I hope to do better this month...but it's already not looking good.

WIPocalypse of Olym...Hellenic Proportions!!

Click now for JiffNotes
WIPocalypse

This update is so late, I may as well have changed the name to Fall Fun WIPocalypse. Hey...I might use that later on this month. ;)

I was surprised when I looked back over how much I've gotten done since the last check-in. Or, more accurately, how many of my WIPocalypse projects I've worked on...the actual amount of progress probably isn't that impressive. =)

Hmmm, I feel like you've just seen most of these...oh, THAT'S RIGHT, YOU HAVE!

Random Thoughts - I will definitely get this done this year!
Now I just need to withdraw the threads for the hemstitched border and figure out whether I want to finish it with the turned-back border or not....

Ye Shall Prosper - incredibly boring at the moment.

Les Rubans - Oh, just look at the previous post. =)

Origami Turtle - All blocked! But sadly still awaiting construction...

Hearts and Flowers Ornament...minuscule progress.

Lottlympiad Opening Week

Click now for JiffNotes

Bob: Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the first update of the Games of the Second Lottlympiad! We have a lot to catch up on...as usual, Jim is here with me to break down the action.

Jim: G'day, mates!

Bob: Jim, what are you doing?

Jim: Bob, by the fires of all the shrimp on the barbie, this is shaping up to be a ripper Games!

Bob: Jim, why are you speaking in an Australian accent?

Jim: What?

Bob: Why the Australian accent? We're in London!

Jim: But...but this is a British accent!

Bob: Ah...no, it's not, Jim. It's definitely Australian. And although Australia is a constitutional monarchy with Queen Elizabeth at its head, you wouldn't call it "British". You're eight years too late...mate.

Jim: But I've been practicing all week! (sobs)

Bob: Check some YouTube videos, Jim.... While Jim pulls himself together, let me talk a little about the time difference. We're six hours behind London, so it's possible that as we delay our updates, there might be spoilers out there. But here, you can be sure that there will be no spoilers.

Jim: That's right, Bob...for instance, we'd never tell you that a Bronze medal was earned in Synchronized Shawling before we go out to Ted and Cynthia at the Aquatics Centre.

Bob: Jim!!

Jim: What??

Bob: You just told them a Bronze was earned before we showed the coverage!

Jim: No, Bob, YOU just told them a Bronze was earned...I said we wouldn't tell them that.

Bob: (sighs) Let's go out to Ted and Cynthia at the Aquatics Centre.

Ted: Thank you, Bob...Jim. Cynthia, we have had a great start in Synchronized Shawling.

Cynthia: Yes, Ted...surprisingly, we can announce that a Bronze medal has been earned.

Ted: Let's take a look at the Bronze medal winning performance.

Cynthia: This is the Jeanie shawl, knit it Dream in Color Starry, and it has a high degree of difficulty, not only because it's a cabled shawl, but it's also reversible.

Ted: And the cables are floating!

Cynthia: Yes, and we can get a better sense of that when we see this shawl in the air.

Ted: You can really see the cables all lined up from that angle.

Cynthia: And speaking of angles, look at the matching angles of entry here, so important in a Synchronized event.

Ted: There's also a unique approach and takeoff going on, right, Cynthia?

Cynthia: Yes, Ted, we are cabling without a cable needle here, which saves a lot of time, and energy. And of course, conserving energy is very important when you have to put together so many repeats to get through the qualifiers, semis and finals.

Ted: Kind of makes you wish the repeats would keep going, doesn't it?

Cynthia: Yes, especially when you get such a nice rhythm going. But it's going to have to wait for another day.

Ted: Back to you, Bob!

Bob: Thank you, Tim and Cynthia. Now I'm sure we all enjoyed the Opening Ceremony...

Jim: I KNOW, RIGHT?? DID YOU SEE THE QUEEN WITH JAMES BOND??

Bob: Yes, it was great to see the Queen with actor Daniel Craig--

Jim: JAMES BOND!

Bob: (eyes Jim)--who plays British super-spy James Bond--

Jim: AND WHAT ABOUT DAVID BECKHAM??!?

Bob: A very unusual entry into Olympic Stadium for the torch, coming right up the river Thames in a boat--

Jim: DRIVEN BY DAVID BECKHAM!!

Bob: (sighs)--driven by David Beckham, who was so instrumental in getting the Games to London. The boat was carrying the torch bearer, who was--

Jim: DAVID BECKHAM WAS DRIVING THE BOAT!

Bob: (sighs) Yes, Jim. As I was saying, we all know that some events start as soon as the Opening Ceremony does. This is why on the first full day of competition, medals are awarded. There was some excitement at the Bead Triathlon's opening swim in Hyde Park. Let's go out to Steve and Julie.

Steve: Thanks, Bob! After a lot of gearing up during the Opening Ceremony, we had a Bronze on the first full day of competition!

Julie: Nice! But isn't all that beading going to make for a bumpy road ahead?

Steve: Perhaps, but endurance is part of the Triathlon, and the next leg looks like it's going to be pretty smooth, if we make it that far. Back to you, Bob!

Bob: Thank you, Steve. Another opening day event was Sailing, in the Starboat division.

Jim: Yeah, you might say it was smooth sailing to a Bronze medal, Bob! See what I did there? Bob?

Bob: Yes, I see what you did there, Jim...spoiled another event result. You know, let's not bother going out to Gary at the venue. Let's just show the medal result.

Jim: Very smooth. Don't we expect some choppy waters ahead?

Bob: Yes, but not with this boat. And I think you'll be surprised with the curves of the next boat, if we make it that far in the competition. Hopefully we'll have more from the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy next week.

Jim: Bob, what are you trying to pull here? Portland is in the US!

Bob: (sighs)

Jim: Bob, you sure are sighing a lot. Are you feeling all right?

Bob: I'm fine, Jim. Now, this is a historic Games for many reasons, including some new events for women that are debuting. Jim has been keeping up with the drama and successes of some of them.

Jim: That's right, Bob, and I'd like to take this opportunity to encourage our viewers to tune in to the Tomorrow show to see our special interview with the family of the first Bronze medal winner in Boxing, from right here at the Lottloft!

Bob: JIM!!

Jim: What??!?

Bob: (sighs) I was just about to announce that the Bronze medal in Boxing was earned.

Jim: Wait, what? Haven't we done that yet?

Bob: No, Jim.

Jim: But that happened, like TWO DAYS ago!

Bob: (sighs) Let's just take a look at the medal ceremony at the ExCel Centre, shall we?

Bob: There you have it, another historic moment in these Games. Now let's go to North Greenwich Arena where Al, Tim and Elfie are waiting to talk to us about Floor Exercise.

Al: Welcome to the competition for women's Floor Exercise. Tim, Elfie, what are we looking at here?

Tim: Well, Al, this is really just the preliminaries, but we already have a Bronze medal in Floor Exercise.

Elfie: Yes, but you'll notice that there are a few steps out of bounds here and there, a few form breaks, and all of those things cost a tenth of a point.

Al: The preliminaries. Before it even happens, this lasts a lifetime. Back to you, Bob.

Bob: Um, thank you, Al. I'd like to take you out to the Aquatics Centre again, where Dan and Rowdy are recapping swimming, but it seems there is only a small amount of progress in the Random Relay.

Jim: Yes, Bob, it's still the preliminaries there as well, and swimmers really work better during daylight hours, at least in the current row.

Bob: You mean "lane," Jim...but why do you say they work better during daylight hours? Is it all the over-one stitching?

Jim: Duh, Bob...have you not seen their swim caps?

Bob: Uh, yes, I've seen them--

Jim: Well, they're BLACK! Clearly, they're solar-powered.

Bob: And on that note, I'll sign off for this update. Hopefully, we'll be back sometime this week, now that the home team are all out of the hospital. Cheerio from London!

Jim: Bob, why are you talking about cereal?

Bob: (sighs)

Will there be more medals in the Lottlympiad? Will Jim learn to speak in a proper British accent? Stay tuned!

Hot Hot Hot WIPocalypse Check-in

WIPocalypse

I totally convinced myself the full moon was today, not Tuesday.

Actually, I convinced myself it was THURSDAY, so that's even worse...I'm forgetful AND late! Maybe it's the heat? We set a record here this week: 106 F! Yes, the South is hot, but we rarely spend days over 100!

Not too much got done this past month due to my epic European vacation (yeah...pictures...I should get on that). Not wanting to overload the suitcase, I only took two small knitting projects (socks and a wrap). When I got back from the trip, I was pretty brain-dead, but I did manage to make a little progress on a couple WIPocalypse projects. (OK, OK, they were also Jumanji June projects, but you won't hold that against me, right??)

First, my Lapland Santa has progressed a bunch. The reindeer is almost done except for beads! (There are a lot, since it's a Mill Hill kit.)

I did a little work on Random Thoughts...it's been a while since I posted a full shot of it, so here it is...

WIPocalypse in Absentia

WIPocalypse

Not too much happened in the past month, between work and travel, but I got at least a little something done...

Tiny stitcher has some feet now!  She looks a lot calmer, doesn't she? =)
I got a teensy bit done on the border as well (please to not go look at the previous WIP picture to see just HOW little...).

I made a new start with DF Teresa (we no longer pretend to have stitch-a-longs...instead we just have "start-a-longs" =)
There are five garden gates in this series (four seasons and Millennium). I have Winter and Millennium done, and I know Teresa has at least one more (Summer) done.

This wee squirrel got a few more letters.
He'll get a friend next month. =)

WIPocalypse

Let's pretend I actually posted this on time, so my title is super-clever rather than really random!

I'm afraid I once again have not very much new to show...or really nothing at all! I continue to blame work. And here I thought I'd be blaming things on black holes created by the Hadron Collider for years! So here is your re-hashed, re-boiled, and slightly re-formatted recap.

I finished up one section of a ribbon on Les Rubans Anciennes:
And now the whole thing looks like this:
That's a lot of blank canvas. But I'm getting there!

Random Thoughts is 5% more random now!

WIPocalypse Check-in 4

Click now for JiffNotes

WIPocalypse

So with March Madness last month, I wasn't concentrating on any WIPocalypse projects, but some of them still came up. So I made a smattering of progress here and there...if you kept up with me during March Madness, these pictures are going to be a bit of a rerun. =)

A little bit of progress on Shakespeare's Garden:

I HAVE to finish Random Thoughts this year now:
I put a stake in the ground! Drew a line in the sand! Crossed the point of no return!
No frogging allowed!!!

I worked on the Origami Turtle; I'm done with the front sides, and I've started one of the sleeves!
This picture was obviously taken while the fronts were still in progress. I'm knitting the sleeves one at a time because it was a pain to knit the fronts both at once...too tangly. I have no problem knitting two socks at once...these were just too big. But it was nice to not have to write lots of notes about what I'd done on the Left so I could replicate it on the Right! I'm taking copious notes on the sleeve. In fact, I sat down and made myself a sleeve diagram earlier in the week so I wouldn't have to "think" anymore (at least about this sweater). =) At least I don't have to "reverse" the instructions like I had to do with the fronts! A sleeve is a sleeve!

Since Amazon April has started, I'm now done with ribbon #1 on Les Rubans Anciennes, and I'm working on ribbon #2!
Um, yeah, it doesn't look like much is done on the piece as a whole, but it's a lot of work!

I made a "little" progress on Keep a Little Secret:
Get it? "Little" because it's over-one, not very much progress, AND part of a project with "Little" in the title. What's better than double entendre?? TRIPLE ENTENDRE!!!

Urban Necessity Gloves got some love:
Done with the cuffs and starting on the thumb gusset (hence the stitch markers).

Finally, Eight-Pointed Star...
I thought I'd finished all the kloster blocks, but I missed a little section there. Oh, well. Soon I'll be on to the fun stuff.

Epic Madness Catchup

Click now for JiffNotes

*wanders out of a cloud of pollen*
SooooOOooo...where were we?

Ah, yes, March Madness! That thing where I work on a different project each day, and then, like, immediately blog about it.

BWAHAHAHA!!!

Ahem.

I left off, what, over a week ago? I had swapped this project for a wildcard, and ended up not making that much progress...these are Elfine's Socks.

Have you ever read Cold Comfort Farm? It's a parody of Gothic novels, written in 1933. If you're prepared for it to be firmly tongue in cheek, it's hilarious. Elfine is a character from that book. I started these socks long before I read the book, but now I think they're extra awesome. =)

The next pull was ANOTHER MAGIC WILDCARD. I really dithered about what to pick...I did want to work on Les Rubans, or Sapphire Star, but I didn't know what I'd do if I pulled those later on. So I picked a totally random project that I ran across while searching for something, that I realized hadn't made it into the Sparkly Compote of Decree!

This blob is Annabelle, and I really meant to get the chart picture in there, but, POLLEN BRAIN. What was I saying? Oh yeah, click that link to see what the fuzzy bunny will look like. I'm doing the stand-up version, in case you couldn't tell, so I'm stitching with lovely soft alpaca fibers. I got some fuzz and most of that flower done...pretty good for one night for me!

The next day, in a fit of irony, the SCOD coughed up...Les Rubans!!

I worked on ribbon one (the pink one), which is ALMOST done. I know you can't really see it from this picture, but I hadn't taken a recent overall picture for my WIPocalypse page. If you want to see closeups of what that ribbon looks like, take a look here. Ribbon one is in two pieces ('cause it's "woven" over and under other ribbons); I'm done with the large piece and almost finished the little one.

I think I missed a day in here, because I can't figure out what I worked on on Wednesday. I did work awfully late that night.... Hmmm, why can't I remember? OH YEAH, POLLEN BRAIN.

Thursday I drew YET ANOTHER WILDCARD!! Are you serious, SCOD??? To avoid having to make a decision about which of my WIPs to stitch, I just started something new. DILEMMA SOLVED, LOL! Actually, in past Marches, I have started new things for wildcard picks as a matter of course. Plus, there is a serious lack of squirrel WIPs up in this place.

This pattern was a gift from DF Teresa, and I got the linen and fibers for it at The Attic when I went for the Chocolat weekend. I had bought the blue on the right before, but then I found the one on the left at the Attic and immediately decided to stitch with that! What's crazy is they are THE SAME COLOR (yes, really this time). I was thinking I'd be able to do one strand over two on the 32-count, but I didn't like the coverage. Now I'm slightly worried that I'll run out, but I am forming a plan in the back of my mind to incorporate the lighter blue if need be. I'm also a little freaked out by how close to the edge I'm getting. I knew it would be tight, but...!! I stitched really late that night because I needed there to be at least one squirrel on the linen!!

The next day I worked on Peacock Tapestry.

Why isn't this on my WIPocalypse list? OH YEAH, because I will NEVER finish this. This year, anyway.

Aaaand, speaking of the WIPocalypse list, the next day my Origami Turtle popped out of the SCOD (no, really, I drew it out...it's OK, the SCOD still has not spontaneously come to life despite my literary personification.)

Starting to look something like something that might be a sweater! I already worked on this this month, but those were days I did a few rows before working on the Decreed project for the day. Totally fits with my totally arbitrary rules.

WIPocalypse Check-in 3

Click now for JiffNotes

WIPocalypse

So, wait wait wait...you are saying, that I should actually be working on projects that are on my WIPocalypse list? Is that how this works?

I think I may be doing it wrong.

I did get a little done on the Blackwork Band Sampler:

And thanks to March Madness I was forced blessed to be able to work on TWO WIPocalypse projects in two days! I give you Jeanie (which you probably saw yesterday)...
It's a wrap with floating reversible cables! Or it will be!
...and a little bit of Astrid, which you...also probably saw yesterday.
Wait...what? This wasn't on the WIPocalypse list? WELL IT IS NOW. 'Cause I'm just that kind of person that writes something she's already done on a list so she can cross it off. Not that Astrid is done, obviously. It's a long way away.

Other things I worked on in February were
  • Peacock Tapestry, which is only NOT on the WIPocalypse list because I have no hope of finishing it this year
  • Dancer, which I just started, so it wasn't on the list...but maybe it can be now??
  • Silver Rose (my knitted hat to replace one I lost), which I was hoping to have done while it was still cold enough to wear it. It is going to be 70F today. HAT FAIL.
