It's been a while since I posted this project (Ravelry link). Thank you for your naming suggestions...I went with a combination of suggestions from Jenny and Minding My Own Stitches...so it's called "Grape Mullions". =) I had a little disaster with it and had to rip back like six rows. I was trying to drop down to fix one stitch, but I got confused about where I was, did too many decreases coming back up (they're only on RS rows, silly girl!) and then thought I had borked the whole thing. So I just ripped back and reknit.
This was what it looked like before I left on vacation.
And after a 10+ hour plane flight (with lots of movies), it looks like this!
Knitting on a plane counts as "in public," right??!?
I'm pretty sure I did the cable cast-on wrong...well, the cast-on was correct. But the directions say to do it at the end of a WS row...I ended up doing it at the beginning of a RS row instead. Then I had to purl that section rather than knit it. No idea how I was supposed to cable cast on at the end of the WS row...I did not check with the rest of the passengers. Can you imagine? "Ladies and gentlemen, we have a knitting emergency in 1G...if anyone knows how to cable cast-on, please press your flight attendant call button."
In other news, I have finally joined the hexipuff craze. =)
I've had the pattern for a while, but just never sat down and read the directions. When I was away a couple weekends ago, I finally had a quite moment to do it. I just didn't have any stuffing with me! What is everyone using for stuffing? I don't know if I want to use just the polyester stuff.

I am knitting hexiflats. I cannot imagine stuffing them with anything for Georgia weather.
Heather ... Did I know you knitted? I don't think so. Your project looks great! I've never heard of hexipuffs. I am sajehill on Ravelry if you care ... lol!
I'm using cotton to stuff my puffs!
Is it still called frogging when doing knitting and not cross stitching? lol
Looks great!
Oh, hexipuffs. I keep thinking I should do some, but then I get distracted by something else.
Your vest is looking great. I love the colour.
Your projects look amazing.. Hexipuffs seem like fun XD
That's SO pretty! And girl, knitting on a plane counts as survival. Totally public, too. Lovely puffs! I'm using the polyfil stuff just because of the sheer numbers of them and the ease and cheap of it. You could totally use little bits of scrap yarn, too if that floats your puff boat. :)
I'm using polyfil as well but some folks are knitting hexiflats. I've been having fun just knitting up a bunch in one spurt and then ignoring it for a while.
I wish you really did that knitting on an airplane emergency thing..
hahahaha!! :D
Love the heixpuff! Nice colors!
Like Jean, I'm going to be doing HexiFlats. I haven't started but I've been mulling it over and of course I ordered yarn! :)
Very cool I like the knitting on the plane I'm sure that counts as in public. Congrats on your anniversary.
Hahaha, that imagery of a plane announcement cracked me up! I can imagine it followed by a polite request by a flight attendent... "would you mind switching seats sir, these two need to sit together to discuss technique". Lol.
The vest is looking great. And love the colours of your first two hexipuffs. Luckily I haven't been bitten by the bug, but I'm enjoying seeing what others are doing. Are you applying any constraints? Colours, yarn brand, etc?
I like the colours of your hexi? (puffs or flats - have you decided yet?), they remind me of a swimming pool... but this might just be summer.
The hexipuffs are so cute and the Grape Mullions is super pretty.
I LOVE So You Think That You Can Dance - that show always makes me cry towards the end, because apparently I am much more touched by dance than song... weird, since singing was my life for years and years. I couldn't dance to save my life... LOL
