Random Disaster Strikes

You know that wonderful feeling you get when you stitch around a border, and it meets up at the other side? That's exactly the feeling I did NOT get last night...
This should have met up! But it's two stitches off. I spent a long time trying to figure out where I went wrong. Everything was matching up between the border on the bottom and the elements above it.

That's when I realized I had a bigger problem.
I didn't count the pulled four-sided stitches when I did them. I just lined them up with what was already stitched above them. Unfortunately, I lined the left side up with the bottom of the "T" rather than the top. The "W" should be completely within the right angle, because there should be another column of two four-sided stitches along the top.

I don't think I'm going to restitch everything that's wrong, especially since those pulled thread stitches are in there distorting the fabric. I will fudge this corner of the border, but the other side can't be fudged. I'll have to frog part of the bottom border and restitch that so the other corner will come out right.

I thought about restitching everything that was wrong...after all, I put a lot of time into this piece. But if I didn't notice it until now, the mistake is obviously not too glaring!! And I have a lot of other things to stitch.

Plus I want to be done before the month is over!

Crisis averted...somewhat. So what would you do? Stitch it over or fudge it?

So frustrating! I hope the re-stitching goes quickly.

You know what is wrong but no one else will..just your blogging friends. And when it is hanging on your wall it will be gorgeous.

Beyond frustrating! Many hugs I send to you.

I hate it when that happens!

I almost always fudge it. Good luck with fixing the issue!

I would definitely fudge it! If you hadn't put that blue line on your photo, I would have never known about the four-sided stitch location error. And you say you're two stitches off. That's a lot better than being 2.5 stitches of--which is easy to do on linen. I agree with Chris, once it's on your wall it will be gorgeous. Hell, it's gorgeous already! Can't wait to see what the hemstitching will look like!

It's not a mistake, it's making it your own, I always have some small differences in my stitching.

It's frustrating. But, it still looks great. I agree with you, the fault with the lining up is not visible as a fault. It just looks good as it is.
If I was you I would fudge the border to make it look good and leave it as it is.
It does look gorgeous. What about declaring it instead of faulty....personalized?

Fudge it! It's your sampler, it can look however you want it to look. Think about the antique schoolgirl samplers, they fudge all over the place, letters squeezed in or missed out, borders chopped to fit the gap etc.

Forgot to say: Robin is stitching this too:

Also, if you fudge it and hate it, you can always send it my way!

IMO - just make the corner look nice. And, you can always take out the error and restitch if the corner bothers you. my two cents worth.

Oops. I'm definitely in the fudging camp. Hope it works out

OH SHUT THE FRONT DOOR. ARRRGGGH!!!
Don't you hate when the border doesn't match up?? Oh, we've alllllll been there, gurl. All of us.
Enh, fudge it. You know who will know once it's done? Only you - and that's only because you're looking for it.

I wouldn't restitch it either.

Poor thing--I definitely feel your pain. Do let us know what you decide to do. I'm with the others about fudging if you can.

Awww! I agree with you though. Don't restitch! I didn't notice it either. I think it's fine. That's annoying though when that happens :(

Aaaack! I think everyone gave really good advice - minimal ripping and fudging. As long as you can live with it! It's a gorgeous piece as it is. I didn't notice it at all ( I went up to your post from the 15th ). Looking forward to seeing what you decide to do.
