Surprise Ornament

I finally finished my Surprise ornament for the exchange in July! It seems like it took FOR-EV-ER!

This scan is just a bit washed out. The colors are still subtle, but a little more saturated than this. Michael said he really liked it when he saw it finished. I'm feeling rather uninspired about how to finish it. Any good ideas? I picked up a book on kumihimo at Stitches South. (Egad, I still need to blog about that!) How weird would it be to use an ancient Japanese braiding as a border for a primitive cross stitch design??

I love it!

Kylie does kumihimo braiding now and then (she raids my fiber stash LOL). I've had her make some finishing braid for me - I love that I can pick the colors so it matches perfectly.

Looks really pretty. I stitched that piece a couple of years ago and made it into a bookmark. But mine was on 36-ct over 2 so maybe yours is a bit too large for that.

It looks great Heather! Would look nice as a mini bellpull, maybe with real pieces of branch?
I have that one kitted, and as always am inspired!

Oooh looks as good as when I stitched it. Funny, I picked up a Kumihimo book myself a few weeks ago. I need to crack that baby open!

I found your blog today Heather. I remember seeing you on bulletin boards a few years back before everyone stampeded over to blogging. (Theresa Wentzler and maybe CSC?). Glad to see you out there still stitching.
