Theme-a-licious Airborne August Wrap Up

This month wasn't that productive for me overall...work was EXTREMELY stressful and I was trying to get ready for our big trip to London. I did manage some more on Dancer (a flying reindeer):

Poor gal. Right now she looks like she resides in Sleepy Hollow.

I also started the next Cookie A Sock Club sock which refuses to be photographed well...

The color is not so Grover/Cookie Monster in real life, and I'm afraid you can't see the lace at all. It'll show up much better once it's on my snowy-white legs. =) I am once again tying a knitting project back to flying in an airplane to fit with this month's theme. The design is "Istanbul" (not Constantinople...sorry...I'm genetically incapable of saying "Istanbul" without adding "not Constantinople"), and we visited that great city (by airplane) a few years ago. Not that I ever got around to blogging about it!!

I'm afraid I did no more on an ornament this month than think about which one I'd stitch!!

Now it's time to dip our toes into...

Sampler September
Whether you're stitching the alphabet over and over (and over), starting your own band (sampler), or marking some spots, this is your month!

Ornament Theme
verse

Now, don't write this one off if you're not a sampler junkie. Why not "sample" a new stitch or the work of a new-to-you designer? As for me, I'll be working on the long-neglected Toccata I! I think I have a few lovely ornaments with verses on them...some with lines from Christmas carols...it'll just be a matter of seeing which of them jumps into my hands.

So how did your Airborne August go? Did your needle fly, or was it difficult to get any projects off the ground? Please add your link below (to your wrap up post), and visit some other Themers if you can (everyone loves comments and encouragement!) We'll check-in on September 15th to we'll see how you're progressing!

How Now, Owl Cowl?

Click now for JiffNotes

I finished this guy a while ago, but I kept thinking I would get a better picture once I had blocked it. This one is unblocked.

Owl Cowl (Ravelry project page)
I took it with me to LA, and I was very happy to have it when we were in the super-cold Joshua Tree National Park, but since it's a wool blend and not 100% wool, it didn't overcome the 45 degrees F weather. It's very soft, though. After blocking, the cables flattened out a good bit, so I don't consider it a smashing success as a project. I still like to say "Owl Cowl," though. =)

Theme-a-licious Airborne August Check-in

Gee whiz, I completely forgot today was the 15th! Good thing I woke up at 5:30 from generic stress. Yay...?

Anyway, it is dark and dreary today, so I don't have great pictures for you.

I've been working on Dancer. Although she (he? I still haven't decided) doesn't have wings, she can, of course, fly.
She does not, however, have a head yet. The colors in this picture are so far removed from reality, I almost changed the picture to black and white!

And now, folks, for a theme-justification worthy of Jo, I give you my start on Twinings:
You may be wondering how the heck this sweater fragment fits with the theme. Well, in the near future I will be flying to London, where we will most likely visit the original Twinings tea store, and this sweater is named Twinings. Also, I will be wearing it someday, and I can fly. Given that I have, you know, a ticket for an airplane. Achievement Unlocked: Justification Station! Also, your eyes do not deceive you: there are three strands of yarn attached to this piece. This is because the four skeins of yarn I ordered were fairly wildly different in color variation when they arrived. I was too nervous to even switch them off every two rows, so I'm switching every row. I'm also making up a new size because neither of the two smallest pattern sizes are really my size...it's like the Three Bears of pattern sizing...so I'm hoping my size-in-between is "just right". Should be interesting... This was supposed to be my Campy Loopy project 3, but since I couldn't get gauge for my original choice and I had to do two swatches for this one, I only cast on a couple days ago.

So how is August going? Is your needle flying, or do you feel like your wings have been clipped? Please add your link below (to your check in post), and visit some other Themers if you can (everyone loves comments and encouragement!) Our next post will be on the 31st of August, when we'll wrap up Airborne Augst and talk about Sampler September!

Finished Object Friday: Tiberius Socks

Click now for JiffNotes

I finished my Tiberius socks! (Ravelry project page)

Our club yarn was a bright orange color...I'm not an orange person, and I thought that the socks should be the color of a Star Trek captain's jersey, so I bought the same yarn base (Sweet Georgia Cashluxe Fine...YUM!!!) in color Ginger.

These socks feel so yummy on my feet!

One of our recipes for the past shipment was Jammy Dodgers. I couldn't resist trying out my Portal cookie cutters in addition to making the more traditional shapes.

Remember, the Aperture Science Weighted Jammy Dodger will never threaten to make you fat, and, in fact, cannot speak. (Doctor Who and video game fusion snack: Plus 5 geek points to me).

I'll throw my August TUSAL in this post, too.

We've had wayyyyyy too much rain this summer. It's extra large due to the finishing of Ophelia. Gee, now that I've blocked Ophelia, I need to take some better pictures. Sounds like an upcoming Finished Object Friday post. =)

Finally, for the few of you that actually read my entire, boring rant about losing Internet access, I promised a giveaway. I didn't forget!! The winner is...

I already have your address. =)
